Monument Yogya Kembali

is a museum of the history of the struggle for independence of the Republic of Indonesia in Yogyakarta and managed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Museum located in the northern part of the city is visited by students in the event excursion.


Museum Monument with a conical shape consists of 3 floors and is equipped with a library and multipurpose room. At the entrance shutter written a number of 422 names of the fallen heroes in the area Wehrkreise III (RIS) between December 19, 1948 until June 29, 1949. In the fourth space museum on the 1st floor there is a collection of objects: realia, replicas, photographs, documents, heraldika, various types of weapons, evocative form of a common kitchen in the atmosphere of the war of independence 1945-1949. Stretcher and carts (carriage) were once used by the Great Commander General Sudirman also kept here (in the museum room number 2).

One diorama (miniature / replicas) in this museum that illustrates the atmosphere of the Great House (RI Presidential palace in Yogyakarta) at the time (which sits on the right: M. Hatta, Sukarno, General Sudirman, TB Simatupang ?, Soeharto).
Yogya Kembali monument was built on June 29 1985 with the traditional ceremony of planting buffalo head and laying the first stone by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX and Sri Paduka Paku Alam VIII. The idea to erect the monument was made by colonel Soegiarto, as munici- Yogyakarta in 1983. The name Yogya Back chosen with the intention of tetenger (warning) of a historical event withdrawal of occupying forces from the capital of Indonesia Yogyakarta Netherlands at that time, on 29 June 1949. It is an early sign of the independent nation of Indonesia from the Dutch government authority.

Construction of the monument is made by taking into account several important factors. The center point of this building is a point that the imaginary connecting several important points, namely Kraton Yogyakarta in Yogyakarta, Tugu Yogyakarta, Mount Merapi, Parang Tritis and Stage Krapyak. This point alone is referred to as the Great Axis of Life and markers of this imaginary point itself is located on the 3rd floor of the building of this monument.
